Medway Maritime Trust

The Medway Maritime Trust is an educational and heritage-management charity based in the South East of England and is currently helping to restore two historic vessels, both listed on the UK Core Collection of Historic Vessels, a list comprising the 60 most historically significant ships in Britain.

Paddle Tug John H Amos
HM Customs Cutter Vigilant
paddle tug John H Amos
Vigilant as faversham

The John H Amos is the last surviving steam paddle tug in the United Kingdom. Restoration has been ongoing since 1976 and the vessel is currently berthed on a disused slipway at Chatham. Kent. Plans are under way to transfer onto a floating pontoon to facilitate access for repairs.

Built in 1902, the Vigilant was rescued from a breaker's yard, made sea-worthy and towed to a temporary mooring at Faversham Creek, Kent in 2006. The MMT will apply for a Project Planning Grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund to establish all the details of restoration before applying for a full grant.
